Gare Maritime is a recently renovated/reconstructed station concourse located in Brussels Tours & Taxis area – referred to as a sort of “indoor city.” It is indeed a bit of a world of its own (which is great for events and as a large indoor space for when the Brussels weather isn’t cooperating)! Gare Maritime has a food court, bars, a playground, shops, and offices, and is also often used as an event space!
Originally built in the early 20th century as a freight train station, Gare Maritime has undergone a remarkable transformation. Once a bustling hub of industrial activity, it has now been revitalized into a vibrant and sustainable urban space that seamlessly combines the old with the new.

Food enthusiasts will be delighted to discover the diverse culinary offerings at Gare Maritime. The space is home to an array of restaurants, cafes, and food stalls, each offering their own unique flavors and culinary delights. From artisanal coffee to mouthwatering street food, there’s something to satisfy every palate.
One of the most impressive aspects of Gare Maritime is its commitment to sustainability. The renovation project prioritized eco-friendly principles, showcasing the potential of adaptive reuse. The structure’s original iron and steel framework has been beautifully preserved, paying homage to its industrial past while embracing modern sustainability practices.
One of our favorite parts is the Corona bar (poorly name after the beer – not the virus)! Despite the unappealing name, it is an awesome place to spend a summer afternoon, especially if you have kids in tow, as the bar overlooks a playground.
In addition to the great food options and activities, the actual space is beautiful from an architectural perspective. The building is the largest timber frame structure in Europe, and utilises solar and geothermal.
The giant hall is a great space and constantly hosting markets, concerts, and events. Definitely worth keeping an eye on their agenda.
Today, Gare Maritime stands as a testament to Brussels’ vibrant creative scene. The spacious interior has been reimagined as a multifunctional venue, hosting a variety of events, exhibitions, markets, and cultural happenings. Whether you’re attending a lively music concert, exploring an art exhibition, or browsing through a local market, there’s always something captivating happening within the walls of Gare Maritime.
- Lots to do
- Great for kids
- Good for groups (at least on the night we came!)
- Bit far away 🙁
