I love going out in Sainte-Catherine. It is the heart of the trendy, “Flemish” area, and has lots to do and see (especially in the winter around the Christmas Market time)… not to mention excellent year-round shopping! However, when it comes to food in the area, it is easy to get overwhelmed by the touristy, flashy restaurants right on the square, screaming to you to join for a cold beer and some moules-frites! Fear no more! Down one of the picturesque alleys to the east, toward the stunning church of Saint Jean Baptiste au Béguinage, is La Guinguette en Ville.
The square gets great light, with a terrific atmosphere, and is a much more low-key spot than being directly on Sainte-Catherine. There are several tables outside, as well as cosy spots inside. The service is friendly and patient (but doesn’t take toooo long)!
The menu is simple and classic, with several vegetarian options as well. It is great for dinner with friends, on your own, with colleagues… pretty much all occasions!
- Classic, yet modern food – not too heavy
- Friendly service and staff
