Jesse chose the place as a surprise entirely, including the location, which is typical on ‘date night’ for us – we take turns planning where to go for dinners out. She took an electric scooter – and I my trusty, rusty old bicycle. After scooting through the Uccle streets, we were greeted by a warm, classy looking building with many outside lights. Walking down an alley like entrance, the friendly staff – including a very caring manager – welcomed us, helped with our jackets, and showed us our table, which Jesse booked in advance.
It has a warm, wooden interior with lots of natural light. There is a beautiful round table in front of a wine shelf, a great, semi-private setting – which later hosted a family celebrating a graduation. However, upon entering, and after the little trip into deep Uccle, we were more interested in the bread, which is served with a homemade spread, and we received a beautiful amuse-bouche. To our surprise, also incredible homemade crisps which were a real highlight.

The menu at Ventre Saint Gris offers several options of three courses. We opted for asparagus and carpaccio, then fish and risotto. Followed by cheese and mousse au chocolat. I still taste the parmesan risotto which was served with green asparagus – and I miss it, a real must-try. In general, the food was excellently seasoned, modern yet classic, and good portions. My cheese plate, combined with a warm, friendly goodbye and a laugh with the staff, were the perfect roundup for an overall excellent dinner and evening.
- Fine, classic, yet modern food
- Excellent service and staff
- Attention to detail – or who has home made crisps?
- Not too easy to reach and located?
